Dropshipping is an ecommerce business model where the entrepreneur does not handle the product directly. Instead, they act as a middleman between the supplier and the consumer.
So, when a consumer buys a product through their store, the entrepreneur contacts the supplier. The supplier then sends the product to the consumer.
Using Shopify for Dropshipping
Shopify is one of the best ecommerce platforms for dropshipping. Entrepreneurs love it because of its good reputation and reliability.
To get started, you will have to open your own Shopify store. Then, you must find products to sell. You can do this by using an app like Oberlo. Oberlo lets you sort through suppliers and list their products on your store.
Once customers buy products through your store, you can fulfill their orders through Oberlo. The supplier will take care of the rest by sending the product to the customer.
The Pros and Cons
This business model has many advantages over traditional ecommerce stores. These include:
- You don’t need as much capital to get started
- You don’t have a bunch of inventory lying around
- Low overhead costs
- You can work from anywhere
- You can easily scale your business
But, like with anything, there are bound to be downsides. Some to keep in mind include:
- Low profit margins
- Supplier errors
- Limited control over the product’s branding
